Windows so clean... you will think they're open!

Crystal Clear Window Washing is back in action after taking the winter off.  As you may know I take the winter off to go down to Guatemala where I have a small and very old, needy sailboat. 

While in Guatemala, I worked on the sailboat, and I volunteered at an orphanage. 

This year, with the help of many of Crystal Clear Window Washing customers, we were able to provide many needed items for the orphanage.  We bought everything from soccer shoes, school supplies and new bedding for the entire population of the orphanage.  My wife and I spent many days sewing covers for all the beds.

Originally, we thought that we were just going to cover the existing beds with new mattress covers, which we did.  But with the funds we collected we were able to replace all the foam mattresses.  The kids were sleeping on two inch foam that was degrading.  We replaced all the foam with five inch medium firmness.  We spent days collecting and buying other items such as plumbing supplies, sacks of beans and rice, and many items needed for day to day operations of the orphanage.

Our contacts at the orphanage provided us with a list of items that were needed and we were actually able to purchase almost all the items they had asked for.  My yellow van was filled to the top and was way overloaded. It took me two border crossing attempts and a small bribe to finally get permission to go through because of the amount of items I carried.

This year my wife and I assisted a medical team doing first line prevention and immunizations and de-worming for children.  We visited several villages and helped pack in medical supplies and assisted with organizing the patients and sorting medications to be dispensed.  We even were called on to use our small launch boat to evacuate a very sick child to a hospital.  The mother had carried the child for hours to be looked at by the doctors. 

My heart goes out to the needy in Central America. Thank you for supporting Crystal Clear Window Washing, which allows me the opportunity to follow my heart. All financial donations we received went directly to the orphanage.
